This delicious ladoo is a combination of rawa / rava and besan. The grainy texture of semolina and the delicate softness of chickpea flour blend perfectly to form tasty ladoos.

In Indian culture, Ladoos are considered auspicious just like pedha and barfi /burfi. Indian mithai /sweets are popularly prepared and served during celebratory occasions and festivals. Indians make time to prepare various mithai at home as offerings to deities especially at Diwali, Dassera, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc.

Most mithai is prepared by dedicated homemakers for consumption at home and take pride to prepare as offerings. With the growing trend of working women and life being hectic with hardly much time to make these delicious but laborious sweets; many have a mix i.e. they prepare some at home and buy some. Many homemakers fill the void by selling classic home fresh mithai / sweets and thus fulfil the need of homemade delicacies.

In Pune, we are blessed with plenty of mithai shops who specialize in catering hygienic and assorted beautiful mithai /sweets and savouries. It is credible to note and appreciate that inspite of having heavy work schedules and where money can buy whatever one wishes to have; there are many who take pride and find time to make awesome goodies at home. Among the many gorgeous mithai, etc.; ladoos are enticing and irresistible. When you look at an inviting platter of assorted ladoos you can’t help but feel immense satisfaction of eating a ladoo!

Quick and easy… so many varieties but popular ones being Besan Ladoo, Rava Ladoo, Motichoor Ladoo, Dink Ladoo, Wheat Ladoo, Dry Fruit Ladoo, etc. where each is unique, special and irrestible. 🙂  Ladoos are handy to serve unexpected guests, great travel food and excellent in tiffins. Healthy to enjoy at break time, wonderful as a no mess dessert and helps satiate that urge of eating a sweet after your meals and a favorite with kids. Ladoos do make super gifts too.

How can one overlook a big dabba full of ladoos? Some may not like them but can you resist feasting with your eyes on those round balls of delectable ladoos? It may take a while to bind them into balls of oozing goodness but the joy of binding ladoos into perfect, flawless without cracks, is a joy to behold! J

Here is a double bonanza… Combine rava and besan and satiate the craving for both. In this recipe, I have included more rava / semolina / rulao as I wanted the rava to be accentuated in my ladoos. You can use equal amounts of both the ingredients or increase more besan or rava depending on your personal preference.

Ladoos, pedha, barfi / burfi… All types of mithai, sweets, savouries, farsan are being exported and gaining popularity all over the world. Every Indian irrespective of which state one belongs… across all borders…loves them all! Ladoos will never ever go out of style or off the table nor will the pedha, or barfi / burfi! 🙂

Here is a recipe which has simple ingredients and makes a delectable ladoo… Savor these sweet balls of goodness or gift a box to the ones you love. How about offering it to Ganaraya during the Ganesh Utsav?

This has been in my drafts for a really long time but so apt for the upcoming Ganesh Festival. 🙂

  • 5 tbsp Pure Ghee / Clarified Butter
  • ½ cup Water
  • ¾ tsp fresh Green Cardamom Powder

  • Raisins as required
  • A pinch of salt

Procedure:

  1.  In a sufficiently broad, deep and thick bottomed pan; dry roast rava / rawa on low heat until lightly pink and fragrant. Keep stirring, be alert and make sure it does not brown or burn. Adjust heat if necessary.
  2. Transfer the roasted rava to a bowl and in the same pan heat ghee and roast the besan on low heat until golden brown and fragrant.
  3. On roasting and melding with the ghee, the besan will turn to a paste. Stir in the roasted rava.  Combine well and set aside.
  4. Prepare a sugar syrup of one string consistency and pour into the rava-besan mixture. Mix well to ensure there are no lumps. Set aside.
  5. When the mixture is warm; add salt, cardamom powder, dry fruit and mix well.
